The soft glow reflecting off the small metal ampersand and the barely-able-to-be-seen ghost of a French Curve pretty much sums up this part of my desk at work.

spotted in the hallway outside of the Allen Street GrillAs I looked around, I really enjoyed seeing that the other signage upstairs also uses ITC Benguiat as its basis; sometimes condensed, sometimes extended, but the same consistent family.
About this font family: “Perhaps the ultimate Art Nouveau typeface, designed for ITC three quarters of a century after its time by Ed Benguiat. The structure, and some of the features, are those of Kleukens, with the familiar ITC refinement, large x-height and close fit.”

Trowel & Square
This fascinating ampersand on 125th St. was captured by a friend riding on a bus this afternoon.
A bit of searching online seems to point that the “Trowel & Square Ballroom” was operated by the Order of Eastern Star, the Female part of the Masons. More on the trowel and square symbols used by Masons.
