Jayyid Harvest Cafe
18" Square, hanging in the Ladies Room at Jayyid Harvest In Harrisburg, PA |
I have a suspicion they just think it's a squiggle since the one is hanging askew. |

Dan Piraro’s Ampersand
Terri and I went to listen to a two hour talk given by one of my favorite cartoonists, Dan Piraro, at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) in NYC. After the talk, he generously took time to chat a bit with members of the audience and sign copies of his most recent book, Bizarro Heros. An unexpected bonus was this ampersand (below).
A bit more about our experience can be found here.

Kodak’s Folmer & Schwing Tripod Ampersand
My father-in-law is working on recreating the top portion to a wooden tripod from the ’20s.
On the left, a similar tripod top found at an antique store. He is using it as a guide for recreating a larger version. He fabricated the brass fixtures himself. |
The Folmer & Schwing tripod top -- with an ampersand stamped into the wood. |
Close-up of the ampersand. |

Hotel State College & Company
spotted in the hallway outside of the Allen Street Grill
As I looked around, I really enjoyed seeing that the other signage upstairs also uses ITC Benguiat as its basis; sometimes condensed, sometimes extended, but the same consistent family.
About this font family: “Perhaps the ultimate Art Nouveau typeface, designed for ITC three quarters of a century after its time by Ed Benguiat. The structure, and some of the features, are those of Kleukens, with the familiar ITC refinement, large x-height and close fit.”
